Hermann Oak - Leather With History
Since 1881, Hermann Oak has been crafting leather in St. Louis, Missouri, carrying a tradition of American leatherworking through five generations. What began with leather made for the horse-drawn trade has grown into one of the country’s enduring tanneries, still deeply rooted in traditional vegetable tanning. Their leather is made slowly and deliberately, with an emphasis on quality rather than shortcuts—and that is a tradition we feel closely connected to.
Hermann Oak is special to us because its leather has a character that cannot be replicated. The natural markings, depth, and feel of each hide make every piece we create slightly different, while its strength allows us to make products meant to be used and enjoyed for years. We appreciate that the leather carries its own history before it ever reaches our workshop, and that through our work, it begins to develop a new one of its own.
